Thunderstorms ripped across the county last night
Although I think I slept through most of it
I’m told I closed the windows—
Sleepwalking with no recall
Thunder and lightning in the distance.
With the gentle sound of rain covering all.
Feel the rain
But proof was evident in the morning
Torrential rivers undermined roads and lawns
Leaving raw gashes empty
Branches down
And scattered black pools of water
I do not live in the lightning capital of the world
And at a distance, it’s so hard to comprehend
Feel the rain
Shocked by their suddenness and
devastation
Phone calls filled with unspoken sorrow
Tears silent against the receiver
Against the inescapable turbulence
Splitting in anger and frustration
And loss and love
Feel the rain
Ripped by forces no one
can ever grasp
Undermined---
How do we prepare for the
storms?
Lulled to sleep by our own
desires
And distance...
Helpless
We pick up the branches
Clumsily fill in the gashes
And watch the dark
empty pools disappear
And we cry
And I don’t claim to
understand this world
And I don’t know how to heal
your pain
Feel the rain
Feel the rain
Feel my tears
Feel your tears
Wash me with your rain
Wash me in the rain
